Where does the team practice?

The Ice Cubes practice at the University of Illinois Ice Arena located at 406 E. Armory Avenue, Champaign IL 61820.

What is the time commitment?

The team practices once a week for an hour from September to March. There are generally no practices during school breaks or on holidays. In addition to practice, the team competes 3-4 times a year, does 2 exhibitions, and performs on Learn-To-Skate test days. These dates are announced at the beginning of each season.

Is travel required?

Some travel is required. The competitons the team participates in are located in the central Illinois area, Chicagoland area, and occasionally, elsewhere in the Midwest. For the competitons that require travel, skaters travel with parents to the competiton location. Team members and their parents stay a hotel close to the competition rink if the competition events are spread over two days.

What level does my skater need to be in to try out for the team?

All team members must have passed Basic Skills Level 1 to be eligible to join either the Basic Synchro Skills or Synchro Skills 2 teams.

Are skaters required to take private lessons to be a member of the team?

No. Skaters may either participate in Learn-To-Skate classes or take private lessons.  Ice time outside of practice is highly recommended.

My skater has never done synchronized skating before. Is that ok?

Of course! Anyone with an interest in being on the team is welcome. Our team is made up of a mix of new and returning skaters. At the beginning of each season, we review the basics of skating on a team and make sure that everyone has an understanding of the sport.
